A tearful Christi Rowan ordered to remain in jail
U.S. marshals led a tearful Christi Rowan back to the Sherburne County Jail on Thursday after a judge decided that the new theft allegations against her were far too serious to return her into society.
Rowan was jailed in a surprise move late Wednesday night while she was visiting her jailed boyfriend, former auto dealer Denny Hecker. Rowan appeared in court wearing jeans, a gray sweater and boots after spending the night in jail. The 37-year old mother of two minor children was alternately pale and red faced as prosecutors accused her of stealing $3,400 from American Express gift cards that Hecker was forced to turn over to the FBI back in October.
Rowan allegedly wrote down some of the card numbers and then used them to shop online and via mail order. For at least one card, she is accused of telling American Express that the card was lost and needed to be replaced.

District Judge Joan Ericksen had ordered that all of Hecker's gift cards (which totaled $11,000) were to be liquidated and used to repay his public defense costs. Prosecutors insist that Rowan did otherwise.
"If those allegations are true, they are extremely serious and rise to the level of contempt," Ericksen told Rowan from the bench.
When Rowan's attorney requested that her client be released to take care of her children, Ericksen refused.
"I am not inclined to let her out.The new rules ban women from “wearing caps or hats without scarves, tight and short wholesaleabercrombiefitch101z, and body piercing. If she took money that was in the custody of the court and FBI and [violated] my order directing that money to be put toward the [public defender] fund, that is a serious affront to the court," Ericksen said.
A new hearing has been set for Wednesday and Rowan will stay in jail at least until then.
The new allegations against Rowan first surfaced this week in bankruptcy court and were presented in criminal court by prosecutors late Wednesday. During Thursday's court appearance, Judge Ericksen called Rowan "an economic danger" to the public. The judge revoked Rowan's pretrial release and rejected the plea agreement that Rowan had struck with prosecutors back in April. At that time Rowan pleaded guilty to two counts of bank fraud and bankruptcy fraud for lying under oath and lying on an auto loan application that secured a Range Rover for Hecker just prior to his 2009 bankruptcy filing.
Rowan had been scheduled to be sentenced on those fraud charges Friday morning, but that has been postponed. Rowan's attorney, Janet Newberg, has requested that the sentencing be postponed for at least two weeks so that she can have time to deal with the new charges.
The new allegations surfaced in bombshell court filings this week after the bankruptcy trustee liquidating Hecker's estate accused Rowan of new crimes.
The trustee, Randy Seaver, said Rowan used her new power of attorney status with Hecker to steal $9,discount jordanshoes online New Products500 by cashing Hecker's secret dividend checks from insurance stock he owned and by withdrawing secret bank account funds as recently as November and December.
Upon learning about the trustee's allegations, prosecutors issued a statement to the court stating that Rowan also stole $3,400 from Hecker's American Express gift cards. Rowan was under strict court orders not to spend or transfer any of Hecker's assets from the bankruptcy estate, prosecutors said, before obtaining a warrant for Rowan's arrest.
