Golf: Scott dreams of Augusta return

FEW golfers get the opportunity to play at the Augusta National.

An invitation-only event, you have to be among the golfing elite to obtain the privilege of playing at the Stateside venue, trumped only by the Old Course at St Andrew's as the most famous in golf.

But for one local man, he has already been there, done that and got the t-shirt – and four times no less.

The 2011 Masters tees-off tomorrow (Thursday) and the world's top golfers will all drive up Magnolia Lane in a bid to join the illustrious Green Jacket club.

But for European Tour rookie, Scott Jamieson, who spent four years at Augusta State University between 2001 and 2005, he already knows what it's like to plait's a more official look than the previous set shot in which Poe was sporting a nice pair of Nike Shox.edhardyshirtsretaily on the hallowed turf.

For he had the honour of playing on the course every year as a student and got to follow in the footsteps of champions like Jack Nicklaus, Nick Faldo, Tiger Woods and fellow Scotsman Sandy Lyle.

Indeed, the thought of doing just that gave him sleepless nights in Georgia.

Scott told the News: “It was pretty awesome being able to play on that course. Not many people get to play Augusta and I can remember not being able to sleep before my rounds because I was that excited.

“It's one of the greatest courses around and, to be honest, I just couldn't concentrate on my game when I was out there.

“I was walking around in a bit of a daze and I kept looking at parts of the course where all the big shots had been played down the years, knowing the greats had played there.

“It was amazing to think that, after watching it on television for so many years, I was there playing the same course.

“We did play in the winter, though, when the azaleas aren't out, and the course is quite soft.

“At the Masters it's hard and fast so the course plays a lot shorter and it's tough to get your ball close to the hole.

“The first three times I played I hit a round of 80 each time, but I managed to hit a 74 in my last round so I was happy with that in the end.”

Augusta State has some of the best sporting facilities in America and the college is well known for its excellent golf programme.

One of Scott's greatest achievements during his time with the Augusta Jaguars was to be named an 'All-American' (or outstanding player). It was undoubtedly the finest season of his Jaguars career as he had the second best stroke average of the squad with a 72.47 average.Holiday shoppers hoping to get a good deal on upscale Ugg boots or bloggenbewinterjacket at Rice's Market in Solebury were disappointed Tuesday morning.

Scott also fashioned an incredible spring season, turning in five straight top-13 finishes before he was also named the player of the year in his final months.

And although playing the Augusta course as a teenager, the 27-year-old has his sights set on returning to Georgia as soon as possible.

“It's my dream to return to Augusta as a pro golfer because then I will have earned my right to play there,” said the Cathkin Braes Golf Club member.

“It's invitation-only so if you play there as a pro you know you've made it. Only the best play Augusta and that's where I hope to be in a couple of years time – or maybe sooner. Who knows?

“It's such a demanding course and you always have to think one shot ahead if you are going to do well. One of the attackers was wearing navy or black jacketswonder and a hat with ear flaps.

“It's so challenging and I'd love to go back there again and improve my score.”

On the European Tour Scott has hit good form in his first few months as a rookie, claiming a sixth place finish at the Joburg Open in January and a fortnight ago finishing fifth at the Sicilian Open.

But, unfortunately for Scott, this year he will have to be content with watching the Masters from afar and building on his game.

He is planning to return to Florida on his week off to meet up with his fiancee in Jacksonville and will have to watch it on television like the rest of us.

But who does he think can walk away wearing this year's Green Jacket?

“Martin Kaymer looks head and shoulders above the rest at the moment,Getting a cubepuzzlepodbean will make your trip pleasant for both your beloved pet and yourself! so I'd fancy his chances,The epicenter struck the seaside town of Léogâne, 16 miles west cheapjersey of the Haitian capital” Scott predicted.

“He's playing so well, but it wouldn't surprise me if Tiger Woods is up there again. Tiger knows what he's doing around Augusta.

“He didn't play much golf last year, but still managed to finish fourth in the world, so you can never rule him out.”
